Let’s Move in Indian Country – May, 2011

WisDOT, WI State Network Project and staff from East Central’s Regional Safe Routes to School Program set up an activity station teaching students pedestrian safety skills.

Pedestrian Safety Workshop – May, 2011

East Central staff worked with WisDOT to bring in John LaPlante, T.Y. International Engineering and Hilary from FHWA, to speak to engineers, planners and advocates about engineering practices for pedestrian safety.

Enforcement for Safe Routes to School – May, 2011

The Regional SRTS Program also hosted a two day Enforcement for SRTS Course at East Central Offices in May, 2011. Peter Flucke, WE BIKE, etc. LLC, presented law enforcement officers from across the region, with information pertaining to bicycle/pedestrian laws in Wisconsin.

Walking School Bus Workshop – March, 2011

The Regional SRTS Program hosted a walking school bus workshop in Fond du Lac in March of 2011. The PedNet Coalition from Columbia, Missouri presented on their successful walking school bus program there. Since the workshop, three walking school buses in our region have been started. Riverview Elementary School in Fond du Lac, Green Lake Elementary School, and Omro Middle School have piloted and developed walking school buses.

In the fall of 2011, the Regional SRTS Program will be piloting walking school bus program within three of the elementary schools in the region. There will be a walking school bus liaison that will be employed by the school district with funding from the Regional SRTS Program to help coordinate this effort.
