The East Central WI Regional SRTS Program is promoting International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
Toolkits are available to participating schools within the East Central Wisconsin Region, which contain student incentives such as sunglasses, Clip-on flashing lights, wristbands, banner for students to sign, t-shirts, Subway gift cards, etc. A set amount of incentives are given out equally to each school, no additional incentives will be given to schools – please consider this when planning your event. Toolkit registration ends Wednesday , September 6th to allow for a timely delivery.
If you would like electronic copies of a sample press release, parent memo, flyer, and posters which you can customize to fit your event or activity please click here.
We will be sending out a post-activity survey via e-mail for you to complete after the event. This survey will be part of our evaluation of the Walk to School Day Toolkit. Evaluation is a crucial part of our program and helps secure future funding for SRTS in our region. Also please let us know what resources or materials you would like to see in the toolkits in the future.
