The East Central Regional SRTS Program observes Bike Safety Day annually in conjunction with Bike Awareness Month and Bike to Work Week in May. This year Bike Safety Day will be held on Thursday, May 17th, 2012. The event focuses on increasing awareness and bicycle safety while encouraging students to bike to school. In past years, up to 75 public and private schools from across the Region have participated in Bike Safety Day. Activities have ranged from educational pieces focusing on bike safety in the classroom to huge Bike Rodeo events with over 300 students in attendance.
The Regional SRTS program will also have 3 bike blenders available for schools to check-out. For more information about the bike blenders please contact a member of the Regional SRTS at 920-751-4770.
Schools are also encouraged to participate in the first ever National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 9th 2012 coordinated by the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
Toolkits are available for Bike Safety Day for any school participating in the East Central Regional SRTS Program. These toolkits include guidebooks containing ideas for activities and events, promotional and educational materials, and student incentives (bike helmets, t-shirts, water bottles, bike accessories, etc.).
For more information on Bike to Safety Day and to request a toolkit from the East Central SRTS Program, please contact Mike Patza at 920-886-6826.
