Bike to School Day

Bike to School Day

The East Central Regional SRTS Program works with local schools to host Bike to School Day events and observes Bike Safety Month annually in May.  These events aim to raise awareness about bicycle safety while encouraging students to bike to school.  In past years, 85 public and private schools from across the Region have participated in Bike Safety Month.  Toolkits are available for Bike Safety Month for any school participating in the East Central Regional SRTS Program.  These toolkits include guidebooks containing ideas for activities and events, promotional and educational materials, and student incentives (bike helmets, bike lights, bike bells, bike locks, etc.)

Schools are encouraged to participate in National Bike to School Day on the first Wednesday in  May coordinated by the National Center for Safe Routes to School.

The Regional SRTS Program also has a bike rodeo trailer available for schools to borrow.  A bike rodeo is a skills course that helps kids improve their bike safety skills as they learn the rules of the road.   Schools can also reserve our bike blenders for their events.    For more information  on  Bike Safety Month or to reserve our bike trailer or the bike blenders please contact a member of the SRTS Staff.
