Action Plans

An action plan is a planning study that allows Safe Routes to School staff to work directly with schools to identify the challenges and constraints of using active transportation to walk, bike, or roll to and from school.  Action Plans typically take 6-9 months, and include opportunities to hear from school leaders, parents, and school staff.   Part of our action plans include a walk and bike audit.  An audit is a crucial assessment tool used to take inventory of existing conditions and note any safety concerns related to students walking and biking.  Safe Routes to School staff provide a report that identifies infrastructure and programming recommendations that could help increase the number of students who walk, bike, or roll to and from school.  Recommendations are guided by the 6 E’s-Education, Encouragement, Engagement, Evaluation, Engineering, and Equity.
